Having been cancelled due to WGA's on-going strike, the 2008 Golden Globe Awards' gala has been canceled and reduced to an hour-long press conference announcing the winners.

AceShowbiz - Causing delay on many new film projects, the WGA's strike has claimed another victim as the 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards' gala has been canceled and reduced only to a press conference. The good news are that the announcement of the winners will still be held at The Beverly Hilton on the original date, January 13, and is covered by NBC News beginning at 6:00 P.M. PST.

In announcing the cancellation, the President of The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Jorge Camara, expressed the disappointment stating, "We are all very disappointed that our traditional awards ceremony will not take place this year and that millions of viewers worldwide will be deprived of seeing many of their favorite stars celebrating 2007's outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television." Camara then added, "We take some comfort, however, in knowing that this year's Golden Globe Award recipients will be announced on the date originally scheduled."

The cancellation of the gala event reportedly causing the acclaimed director Stephen Spielberg to have to wait for next year ceremony to receive an award for his outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment. Initially, the six times Golden Globes-winner was scheduled to be presented with the Cecil B. DeMille award at 2008 Golden Globe Awards. However, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided on Tuesday that it would be better to honor the director of "Letters From Iwo Jima" at the 66th annual ceremony in 2009.

Prior to the cancellation of one of the most prestigious awards events, it was reported that not one of the 72 acting nominees would be attending the traditional award event to show solidarity with the WGA. In a statement on Friday, January 4, Screen Actors Guild President Alan Rosenberg said, "We applaud our members for this remarkable show of solidarity for striking Writers Guild of America writers."
