AceShowbiz - There is no surprise at the number one spot of the domestic box office as "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" remains unbeatable. For the third weekend in a row, the Disney sequel managed to be the king of the three days weekend box office ended on Sunday, January 6, 2008.
Though experiencing a 43|percent| declining of sales, Jon Turteltaub's action adventure film still earned $20 million. Additionally, in its third week, it is already gathering domestic gross of as much as $171 million and outshining the original "National Treasure" that posted a final domestic gross of $173 million.
In the meantime, the second to fourth spots saw a tight competition of "Juno", "I Am Legend" and "Alvin and the Chipmunks". "Legend" which fell down to the third position last weekend, maintained its position, but managed to take revenge over its rival "Chipmunks" that dropped to the fourth place this week. The Will Smith-starring movie grabbed another $15.7 million with its cume grew to $228 million in its fourth frame, while Tim Hill's animation movie that pushed "Legend" to third spot last week grossed around $15.5 million.
The surprise story, however, came from "Juno" who made a huge leap from the fifth place last week to the runner-up spot. The drama comedy movie about teen pregnancy came a bit more from the other two films as it gained an increasing of 49.1|percent| in sales earning $15.9 million. Hence, since the day it premiered five weeks ago, the film starred by Ellen Page, Michael Cera and Jennifer Garner among others has gathered about $52 million in total becoming the best for any specialty film released in 2007.
The fifth place went to the only film released on the weekend, "One Missed Call". The Warner Bros' movie collected $12.5 million in its first week. Further, Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts' drama film "Charlie Wilson's War" slipped to the sixth place from the fourth slot with an income of $8.1 million, while "P.S. I Love You" secured its place in the seventh place with $7.8 million.
Other films that managed to secure its spot from last weekend were "The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep" and "Sweeney Todd". The two movies stayed on the eighth and ninth positions with respective income of $6.2 million and $5.5 million. Rounding up the top ten box office was "Atonement". The movie that is nominated for Golden Globe sealed the last spot with $5 million.
