Tyler Perry Joins Star Trek, Involved in Pic's Pivotal Scene?
Movie

The actor/producer is said to play the head of Starfleet Academy who appears in a sequence depicting Kirk's trial for reprogramming the Kobayashi Maru test.

AceShowbiz - Cast addition for the highly-anticipated "Star Trek" seems to have included another well-known name that turns out to be Tyler Perry, if tidbit from UGO proves legit.

According to sources for the site, the actor/director is being billed as the head of Starfleet Academy and has already filmed his scenes, of which one of them was claimed to be a big sequence about young Kirk facing expulsion from Starfleet.

In the scene, Perry's character was said to oversee some kind of Starfleet courtroom/assembly event when Kirk, played by Chris Pine, is having his trial upon reprogramming a no-win scenario on the Kobayashi Maru test. Also featured in reportedly were Zachary Quinto as young Spock and dozens of other extras.

"So young Kirk is standing in front of his peers (human and alien Starfleet cadets and officers) and facing immediate expulsion from the Academy," UGO described. "After hearing the charge from Perry's character, Chris Pine-as-Kirk delivers a speech in the same vein as some of the classic Kirk speeches from the TV series. He wants to know how his cheating was found out, and it's revealed that there was a witness to Kirk's act. Kirk immediately demands to know who the witness was so he can face his accuser."

Should the scoop turns out to be true, the project thereby will mark Perry's first time to appear in a film feature outside his own movies. The New Orleans native has so far been known to constantly star in pictures that he also wrote, directed, and produced, the most recent one being Lionsgate Films' drama comedy "Why Did I Get Married?" released on October 12, 2007.

UPDATE 01/03/2008: Following the rumor that Tyler Perry is going to play in the upcoming movie "Star Trek", it was reported that the screenwriter and actor of "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" has indeed joined the cast. According to Hollywood reporter, he has joined the ensemble of the Sci-fi film as the head of the Starfleet Academy.
