R.E.M. announced to Q magazine that the title will be taken from one of its tracks and that it will be "razor sharp".

AceShowbiz - R.E.M.'s new album, due April 1, is taking shape with the announcement of the title. Continuing their new tradition in 'Around the Sun' (2004) of taking a track as the title of the album, the band decided to name it 'Accelerate'.

The announcement to England's Q Magazine, came one day before the band launched their special website that will promote the new album. NinetyNights.com was officially opened on January 1, giving the first video that will be followed daily by others until the album's release date. In the site, fans can view the 30-90 seconds clips that are produced by Vincent Moon, and download it in HQ.

Telling Q about the new album, frontman Michael Stipe said, "I think the songs on 'Around The Sun' are great, but in the process of recording we lost our focus as a band. Now, that focus is back. And it's razor sharp."

Meanwhile, Undercover.com.au reported that the band's touring keyboardist Ken Stringfellow had been sidelined after the band's decision to go "guitar-driven" in 'Accelerate'. As a result, Stringfellow announced that he won't be a part of the band's upcoming tour and that he will channel the time for his band The Disciplines.
