Titles like "Run, Fat Boy, Run" and "Romulus, My Father" will have their North American premieres while those of "Persepolis" and "The Orphanage" are included in the foreign-language films slate.

AceShowbiz - Assembling the slate for the 2008 edition of the annually-held event, Palm Springs Film Festival organizers have selected 222 film titles from over sixty countries to be screened during the festival's run on January 3-14, 2008.

"We've streamlined the Festival line-up this year, trimming the overall numbers while adding some exciting new features and showcases," Festival Director Darryl Macdonald remarked. "The result is a richer and more focused event that maintains the Festival's concentration on quality international programming, while highlighting the diversity of its offerings in a more accessible, audience-friendly way."

Out of the 222 features, four will have their world premiere with 40 others encountering their U.S. Premiere and 25 having North American premiere. Among the latest's roster are U.K.'s "Run, Fat Boy, Run" and Australia's "Romulus, My Father", which most recently won Australian Film Institute Awards' Best Picture of 2007.

For the foreign-language pictures slot, the festival is set to screen 55 of the official submissions to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for foreign-language film. Titles like France's "Persepolis", Romania's "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days", Spain/Mexico's "The Orphanage", and Denmark's "The Art of Crying" are all included.
