The Juan Antonio Bayona-directed movie receives fourteen nods in total, most notably that for Best Picture category.

AceShowbiz - Set to stand out in critical recognition, ghost tale "The Orphanage" has been revealed to be the top nominee of the Spanish Film Academy's 2008 Goya Awards, the Spanish equivalent to Academy Awards.

The Spain's submission for the foreign-language film slot at the 80th Oscar, pic remarkably scoops up a total fourteen nods, including Best Picture (Mejor pelicula) and Best New Director (Mejor director novel) for Juan Antonio Bayona.

Female lead Belen Rueda and her co-star Roger Princep contributes one nomination each, the former scoring in Best Leading Actress (Mejor interpretacion femenina protagonista) category while the latter in that of Best New Actor (Mejor actor revelacion). Scribe Sergio G. Sanchez also received a mention in Best Original Screenplay (Mejor guion original) slot.
