Paul Haggis and Robert Moresco claimed the studio owes them nearly $5 million in contingent compensation for their producing roles in the movie.

AceShowbiz - Two producers of Academy Award-winning picture "Crash" Paul Haggis and Robert Moresco have placed a lawsuit against the studio financing the flick, Bob Yari Productions, stating they are owed more than $4.7 million in profit from the movie distribution.

As reported by Variety, the legal papers, filed last week in L.A. Superior Court, pointed out that both Haggis and Moresco had entered into a series of agreements under which they were entitled to receive a three-tiered contingent compensation depending on the picture's financial success. In the film, Haggis also served as the writer and director with Moresco having a screenplay credit as well.

Still according to the complaint, Yari Prods. agreed to finance "Crash" with a budget not to exceed $7.5 million. An August audit, however, revealed there were bogus charges that were improperly included by the studio against adjusted gross profits. The charges, the two accused, were made on purpose to elude Yari from paying a large share to them.

Alleging Yari Prods for breach of contract, Haggis and Moresco thus are seeking money damages and a court order imposing a constructive trust on assets held by Yari for the racial tensions-focused drama. Their lawsuit turns out to be the latest in a long line of litigation involving the film as producer Cathy Schulman previously was found to sue the studio honcho Bob Yari, claiming she was fired in retaliation for the Producers Guild of America's refusal to award him a producer credit.
