The late comedian and talk-show host Johnny Carson has been named TV Land and Entertainment Weekly's No. 1 Television Icon.

AceShowbiz - Johnny Carson, an actor, comedian, and writer, best known for his iconic status as the host of "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" for 30 years, is at it again. The former TV icon, notwithstanding with his death in January 2005 at 79, is being remembered and saluted by nowadays younger generation and has been picked to top the No. 1 spot on the list of "The 50 Greatest TV Icons," compiled by cable's TV Land and the writers of Entertainment Weekly magazine.
Carson is just one among the many other names that surprisingly make the list, which in fact comprised from human TV stars to pooch.
Making the Top 10 list are some familiar names in the industry, which among others include actress Lucille Ball at 2nd and the popular talk show host Oprah Winfrey at No. 3. Bill Cosby, Walter Cronkite, and Carol Burnett are on the subsequent 4th to 6th spots. Actress-comedian Mary Tyler Moore is chosen the 7th Greatest TV Icon, followed by Jerry Seinfeld, Homer Simpson, and Dick Clark all of whom ranked 8th to 10th respectively.
A two-hour special called "The 50 Greatest TV Icons" is set to air on TV Land Friday November 16th at 8 p.m. EST, the same day the list will appear in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly. With the magazine feature celebrating each icon's contribution to television along with DVD recommendations of their work, the special will also feature original talent interviews and archival clips of the entertainers who made the list, as well as those who have been influenced by them.
