AceShowbiz - The last piece of the puzzle has finally been found. Completing the main lineup of "Star Trek" cast, Paramount Pictures has locked Bruce Greenwood for the role of Starship Enterprise's first captain Christopher Pike, which Tom Cruise was previously speculated to be up for.
The character was first featured in the original pilot of the series, created by Gene Roddenberry, but was failed to grace the audience as the pilot was rejected by CBS then NBC. He, however, was later weaved back into "Star Trek" lore and showed up in a two-part episode.
In its further report about the project, The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that the film's producers are expecting to start shooting this month. Story is believed to chronicle the early days of the Enterprise crew with J.J. Abrams to direct from script by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
As for Greenwood, the Canadian actor is last seen playing FBI Agent Jack McCready in 2006's "Deja Vu" and will next appear in the upcoming "I'm Not There" and "National Treasure: Book of Secrets." When taking part in the first "Rambo" installment "First Blood", his original twelve lines were sadly cut to a walk-on part only, but his name thankfully still got listed in the credit.
