Get your first look on Denzel Washington as Wiley College professor Melvin B. Tolson and a bespectacled Forest Whitaker.

AceShowbiz - We have already seen Denzel Washington as mob leader Frank Lucas in currently-shown "American Gangster", and now, we can also take a look at him as a college professor in a film he himself directs.

Yes, an initial theatrical trailer for "The Great Debaters" has smoothly made its way to greet moviegoers online. Spinning a little over two and a half minutes, it is now available at Yahoo! Movies, but you can find a link to it as well via The Great Debaters Trailer page at AceShowbiz.

Showing us the believable 1935 setting, most of the trailer's content focuses on the real-life character Washington plays, Wiley College professor Melvin B. Tolson. Though so, it also gives us introductions to other characters of the flick, notably bespectacled Forest Whitaker in his role of the father of one of the debaters and a rival to the professor.

Opens this Christmas under The Weinstein Company banner, "Debaters" also features the likes of Columbus Short, Kimberly Elise, Jermaine Williams, Nate Parker, and Justice Leak in the cast. Pic is developed from script by Robert Eisele and Suzan-Lori Parks with Washington also serving as the flick's producer alongside Oprah Winfrey, Todd Black, Kate Forte, and Joe Roth.
