The action star and filmmaker is in talks to both star in and direct the new version for MGM.

AceShowbiz - This time, it will be a remake for Sylvester Stallone instead of another sequel. Variety has reported that the action star now is engaged in talks to both direct and topline "Death Wish", an MGM redo of its 1974 crime drama starring Charles Bronson.
"We are looking at our library to determine which potential franchise properties make the most sense for us to produce, and 'Death Wish' was clearly one of that jumped out," MGM chief operating officer Rick Sands remarked. "We hope to get a deal done with Sylvester Stallone to direct and star, and like the 'Rocky' and 'Rambo' films, we see this as another potential franchise for him."
Project has already had writing duo Michael Ferris and John Brancato to work on its script also Kevin King to produce with a March 2008 start being eyed if a writers strike is settled in short order.
The original version, directed by Michael Winner, was based on Brian Garfield's 1972 novel which concerns a man who becomes a vigilante after his wife is murdered and his daughter is sexually assaulted by burglars. It was one of the highest-grossing movies during the early 1970s and instantly became an immediate classic, even spawning four sequels over a twenty-year period.
