The American Idol's second season runner-up will play the chicken-hearted Sir Robin in the comedy musical.

AceShowbiz - Set to display his acting knack on stage, Idol alum Clay Aiken has been selected to be the latest cast member of Broadway comedy musical "Monty Python's Spamalot." Confirmation of his involvement was announced yesterday, October 16, 2007 by director Mike Nichols and author Eric Idle.

"Clay Aiken is amazing beyond that glorious voice," Nichols commented. "Turns out, he is an excellent comic actor and a master of character."

Here Aiken will play the role of Sir Robin, originated by David Hyde Pierce, the most chicken-hearted of the Round Table crew, whose real aspirations is not finding the Holy Grail but singing show tunes. The singer will join the lineup on January 18, 2008 to then continue playing his part up to May 4 the same year.

"Let's not lie, the chance to work with legendary creative minds like [Nichols and Idle] is, on its own, a reason to jump at this opportunity," Aiken said in a statement. "The producers and creative folks I have had the chance to meet and work with so far have been unbelievably welcoming and wonderful. They've really made me feel at home already, and I haven't even started yet."
