AceShowbiz - Family comedy genre is finally back in its top shape through Walt Disney Pictures' "The Game Plan." Strove high to score a solid $23 million in its first three-day run, the kid-friendly movie went straight to the top slot of weekend North American box office ended Sunday, September 30, 2007.
Pic beat down fellow newcomer "The Kingdom" which fell short at $17.1 million to finish on number two. Last-week champ "Resident Evil: Extinction" took the position right behind after only made decent effort of $8.04 million, a steep downfall from its $23.7 opening-weekend gross.
Making up the big five of the chart were sex comedy "Good Luck Chuck" and Western flick "3:10 to Yuma" for respective income of $6.24 million and $4.21 million. Sixth place went to Neil Jordan-directed "The Brave One" that managed to gain $3.72 million into its feedbag, way above the $2.95 million "Mr. Woodcock" has collected in its third spin in the competition.
Elsewhere, Russian mob saga "Eastern Promises" fell three steps down to number eight as it merely pulled another $2.94 million to make a total tally of $11.3 million. Trailing at $2.57 million was college comedy "Sydney White" followed by Julie Taymor's "Across the Universe" with a modest income of $2.02 million.
