AceShowbiz - Appealing to men for its violent, R-rated content and also to women for its leading star Jodie Foster, vigilante movie "The Brave One" easily transcended gender to fare high in ticket sales and secure the top spot of weekend box office ended Sunday, September 16, 2007.
Scooped $13.5 million in its first three day-run, the Warner Bros. Pictures revenge tale outdistanced last week's champ "3:10 to Yuma" as the Western flick took lower tally of $8.93 million during its second run in the competition. Another new release "Mr. Woodcock" came up as the second runner-up, scoring slightly lesser at $8.76 million.
The fourth rank went to high school comedy "Superbad" after its decent effort in garnering $5.11 million. South Korean monster film "Dragon Wars" and former top holder "Halloween" took the next two positions behind, drawing $5.04 million and $4.87 million, respectively.
Landing on number seven was "The Bourne Ultimatum", which managed to add $4.13 million into its pocket. Pic was followed by three other titles to round out the top ten of the list: Rogue Pictures-released "Balls of Fury" with $3.32 million, action buddy comedy "Rush Hour 3" with $3.3 million, and Steve Bendelack's "Mr. Bean's Holiday" with $2.73 million.
