Madonna Meets Israeli President, Calls Herself Ambassador for Judaism

Madonna met with Israel's president, Shimon Peres, on Saturday September 15th during a visit to attend a conference on Kabbalah.

AceShowbiz - A singer and songwriter, Madonna is now an ambassador as well. The pop superstar took time Saturday September 15th while celebrating the Jewish New Year to meet Israeli President Shimon Peres to whom during the conversation she called herself "an ambassador for Judaism."

Madonna, accompanied by husband Guy Ritchie, met Peres at his official Jerusalem residence on Saturday evening. The twosome exchanged gifts with the singer received a lavishly bound copy of the Jewish Bible, and the President got a volume of "The Book of Splendor," the guiding text of Kabbalah, inscribed "To Shimon Peres, the man I admire and love, Madonna."

It was during the meeting that The Yediot Ahronot daily quoted Madonna as telling Peres, "You don't know how popular the Book of Splendor is among Hollywood actors. Everyone I meet talks to me only about that. I am an ambassador for Judaism."

Madonna arrived in Israel Wednesday night September 12th, the eve of the new year, to attend a Kabbalah conference in Tel Aviv to celebrate the Jewish New Year. Demi Moore and her husband, Ashton Kutcher, were seen among the attendances. Other famous people who flew in for the Kabbalah conference included Rosie O'Donnell and fashion designer Donna Karan.
