Directed by Ridley Scott, "American Gangster" is based on the true story of Lucas, a heroin kingpin from Manhattan who smuggled the drug into the country in the coffins of American soldiers returning from the Vietnam War. To prepare for his role, Washington spent many times with Lucas and later even bought him a Rolls-Royce as a sign of gratitude after filming wrapped.
