Collider.com claims the Oscar-winning filmmaker has taken his leave from the project without specific reason.

AceShowbiz - Looks like the reunion we wait to happen between Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro in "The Winter of Frankie Machine" may be unable to get realized.

Collider.com recently come up with a surprising news indicating that Scorsese has decided to quit helming the project, which will supposedly mark the ninth collaboration he strikes with De Niro.

"It seems quite likely the production will fall apart without (Scorsese's) involvement," the site commented.

Reason behind the departure of the Oscar-winning fillmaker is unclear though, so just keep sticking to AceShowbiz for further info about this matter.

Set to be distributed by Paramount Pictures, "Frankie Machine" is an adaptation of the Don Winslow novel about a retired mob hitman-turned-bait shack owner who gets pulled back into his former profession by the scheming son of a Mafia Don. Assigned to pen the script are "Ocean's Thirteen" scribes Brian Koppelman and David Levien with De Niro also producing via his Tribeca Productions shingle.
