Independence Day Helmer Remaking Fantastic Voyage
Movie

German filmmaker Roland Emmerich will direct a new version of the classic movie for 20th Century Fox.

AceShowbiz - Recently completed "10,000 B.C." for Warner Bros. Pictures, Roland Emmerich has nabbed another helming stint to do. The German filmmaker next is set to direct 20th Century Foxs sci-fi feature "Fantastic Voyage", which turns out to be a remake of the 1966 film of the same name.

The original, helmed by Richard Fleischer, focused on a scientist dying of a blood clot whose only chance for survival is letting his five scientist colleagues be miniaturized in a ship and injected into his bloodstream.

No names attached to star yet, but it is revealed that "National Treasure" scribes Marianne and Cormac Wibberley are in talks to pen the script. Meanwhile, Emmerich's partner at Centropolis Entertainment Michael Wimer will produce with James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment.

For Emmerich, the project is his third large-scale picture for Fox following 1996s "Independence Day" and 2004s "The Day After Tomorrow." It is also his second tour of duty on the flick, after being attached a decade ago.
