Escape from New York to Be Len Wiseman's Next Directing Project

"Underworld" series helmer Len Wiseman is in final negotiations to direct New Line Cinema's remake of John Carpenter's "Escape from New York."

AceShowbiz - Eager to have another gun-banging action after "Live Free or Die Hard", Len Wiseman is close to get "Escape from New York" as his next helming stint.

Variety has revealed that the Fremont-born filmmaker is currently in final negotiations with the studio producing the flick, New Line Cinema, for the task, which will require him to develop the actioner from Ken Nolan's script.

A remake of the John Carpenter 1981 movie, "New York" has already picked up "300" star Gerard Butler to topline with Carpenter, Ori Marmur, Ron Halpern, and Frederic Sichler executive producing. Meanwhile Neal Moritz is set to produce via his Original Film banner.

Wiseman, husband of actress Kate Beckinsale, began his career in film industry as a property assistant in "Stargate" as well as "Independence Day" before venturing into directing field through "Underworld" which finally propelled his name in Hollywood. Apart from "New York", he reportedly is also in negotiations to helm New Line's other anticipated project "Gears of War", an adaptation of the Epic Games popular third-person shooter video game.
