Stephen Sommers Is G.I. Joe Director?
Movie

IESB.net has brought up a scoop saying "Van Helsing" director Stephen Sommers may be up for the helming stint on the live-action adaptation of Hasbro's famous toy line G.I. Joe.

AceShowbiz - After handling creepy creatures as seen in the first two "Mummy" installments and "Van Helsing", Stephen Sommers may possibly take care of those military figures from Hasbro.

According to IESB.net, words have it that the Indianapolis-born filmmaker has been offered the director's chair for none other than "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra", a live-action film version of Hasbro's popular action figures that Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing for Paramount Pictures.

While the site has no doubt that there is going to be some negative and positive reaction to the choice, it, on the other hands, questions on what will become of Sommers' stint in "When Worlds Collide" as the project is supposedly in pre-production stage under his direction by now.

In the meantime, IESB.net also speculates that the script is likely to be a mash-up of the Skip Woods origin screenplay and Elliot/Lovetts more-straight-out adaptation. Regarding the star, it still stands to its previous statement claiming Mark Wahlberg is on the run to play Duke in the movie though is quite open on the possibility for casting change.
