Paramount Pictures is said to consider Russell Crowe for a villainous role in its highly-anticipated sci-fi flick "Star Trek."

AceShowbiz - While speculations on Tom Cruise being tipped to take cameo role of Captain Christopher Pike in "Star Trek" are still rolling, another has already come up to the surface, and yes, it also has a big Hollywood name attached.

IGN has claimed to be told that Paramount Pictures is trying to get none other than Oscar winner Russell Crowe on board as the villain for the highly-anticipated project. Though so, the site did admit that its source actually was in doubt that the studio and helmer J.J. Abrams could really signed the actor as he would be busy filming "Body of Lies" and "Nottingham" in the coming months.

Nonetheless, as IGN pointed out, the search for a strong thesp like Crowe thereby suggests that the pic's villain could very well be a leader of men, a part that the New Zealander is frequently believable in. As for the character, it is unknown yet whether the character is human or some other alien species like Klingon or Vulcan in spite of a mention that he is said to be a 'Federation villain.' Still, it sure would be interesting to see Crowe act more as an alien being than just a chilling human villain.
