Mos Def Lands Role in Dramedy Bury Me Standing

Rapper Mos Def reportedly is about to star in indie dramedy "Bury Me Standing" alongside Kerry Washington and Alfre Woodward.

Already recognized as one of only a handful of rappers who have garnered critical approval for their acting work, has found himself a starring role in an indie feature titled "Bury Me Standing", a comedic drama about life, death, and the madness that follows when two people meet, BlackFilm.com has reported.

Also starring and Alfre Woodward, project examines a young woman's reflections on death, a memorial, and a "family" that is forced to face its greatest fears when a young man suddenly dies. Washington will portray a character named Mod who makes a deal with Gloria, a mother who is mourning her son played by Woodward, to give away her unborn baby in exchange for her house.

Shooting is due to begin next month in Philadelphia under the direction of Caran Hartsfield who is set to perform the task based on his own script. Meanwhile, Effie Brown is producing via her Duly Noted Inc. alongside Gina Kwon, who previously produced past dramedies like "" and "."

Def, whose birth name is Dante Terrell Smith, began his professional acting career at age fourteen, few years before building his way in music industry. Throughout his journey in the field, he has been nominated for an Emmy Award and Golden Globes while winning a Black Reel Award in Best Actor, Independent Film category for his performance in 2004ís "."
