Lionsgate Taps Gabriel Macht to Be The Spirit Lead
Movie

"Because I Said So" star Gabriel Macht has secured the lead role in Lionsgate Films' adaptation of Will Eisner's comic book series "The Spirit."

AceShowbiz - Finally the search for male lead in "The Spirit" is concluded now that Lionsgate Films and director Frank Miller have found the appropriate one to assume the role, who turns out to be Gabriel Macht, fresh from Michael Lehmann-directed "Because I Said So."

Macht will then assume the role of the titular character, described as a man who has faked his own death so he can battle crime from the shadows of Central City. The Bronx-born actor landed the part after making his way to impress the filmmakers in the audition for the flick, which Miller insisted to carry out in looking for actor to play the role.

"We think Gabriel has a devilishly charming quality, and the dry wit that embodies the Spirit, and we wanted to do this with someone who can embody this character for the next few years, because we anticipate we'll be making more than one Spirit movie," Lionsgate prexy of film production Mike Paseornek commented.

Based on Will Eisner's classic comic book series of the same name, "Spirit" is said to begin production this October for a 2009 release with Miller also penning the script and Gigi Pritzker plus Deborah Del Prete both handling producing matters. Meanwhile, Samuel L. Jackson is still in talks for the role of Octopus, the movie's villain who is bent on wiping out the entire city and kills anyone unlucky enough to see his face.
