E! Network has announced that it has decided not to renew "The Simple Life" for a sixth season.

AceShowbiz - With Nicole Richie counting days to lock down and Paris Hilton gets herself busy with more recording projects and starring part in Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate Films' full-blown musical thriller "Repo! The Genetic Opera," E! Entertainment has put the brake on its plan to renew "The Simple Life" for a sixth season.

The channel announced Monday July 30th it won't renew the reality TV series for a sixth season. "The Simple Life has been a wonderful addition to the E! schedule for two years and we will always be grateful to Paris and Nicole for their hard work and graciousness," E! said in an issued statement.

Thus, "The Simple Life Goes to Camp," a currently-airing fifth "The Simple Life" edition that followed BFF Paris and Nicole as they worked as camp counselors at five different camps, would mark the end of the pair's "Simple Life" run.

"We felt like the real life drama of their lives overshadowed anything happening on the show," Us Weekly quoted an insider as saying. "Viewers would see Paris all day long on the news about her going to jail, so they didn't care about seeing her camping with kids. It just was too played out."

"We all thought the publicity would help the show; we were wrong. It's not doing well [in the ratings]," E! Networks president and CEO Ted Harbert told reporters. "People watch it because they want to see what's going on with Paris Hilton. But now everybody's covering what's really going on with Paris Hilton. It makes the show seem contrived by comparison."

"The Simple Life" originally broadcast on Fox from 2003 to 2005 and on E! from 2006 to present. "The Simple Life Goes to Camp"'s finale will air Sunday.
