Oscar winner Julia Roberts has been chosen as the recipient of the 22nd annual American Cinematheque Award.

AceShowbiz - Lauded as one of the finest actresses of her generation, Julia Roberts has been selected to be the recipient of this year's American Cinematheque Award for her work and commitment in making a significant contribution to the art of the motion pictures.

The honor will be presented to the beauty at the Cinematheque's annual benefit gala held on October 12 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills, California. The tribute will then be aired by AMC, the exclusive broadcast partner of the annual event since 2003, in December with Irene Crinita producing.

"Julia Roberts is a true movie star who has delighted audiences and critics in so many pictures, from her first screen appearance in 'Mystic Pizza' through megahits like 'Pretty Woman' and 'Runaway Bride' to her Academy Award-winning performance in 'Erin Brockovich' and many, many more," Cinematheque board chairman Rick Nicita stated Monday, July 23.

Roberts, also one of the highest-paid actresses in the world, recently enjoyed her Broadway debut as Nan in "Three Days of Rain" at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. She next can be seen on the big screen playing Joanne Herring in Mike Nichols-directed drama feature "Charlie Wilson's War", set to open on December 25 this year.
