Comedic flick "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" shoves last-week top holder "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" in spite of negative reviews.

AceShowbiz - It's obvious now that moviegoers are rather inclined to have laughs in spending their weekend in theaters this time as "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" surprisingly goes straight to the top place of weekend domestic box office ended July 22 despite bad reviews.

Raking in a hefty $34.2 million, the Universal comedy thereby successfully knocks "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" down to number two, but, on the other hand, only makes a narrow gap between them for the fifth installment of the teen wizard adventures turns out to score slightly below at $32.5 million.

Other new release, "Hairspray", smoothly takes on the third spot after managing to pull an impressive $27.5 million in its debut, followed by former champs "Transformers" and "Ratatouille" which fare respective income of $20.5 million and $10.9 million to round out the top five of the chart.

Nabbing the position behind is action flick "Live Free or Die Hard" for its decent attempt to add another $7.1 million into its pocket, a tally that far outdistances the $3.6 million rom-com pic "License to Wed" has collected. The next three slots, lined up in order, are secured by horror thriller "1408" with $2.6 million, Tom Shadyac-directed "Evan Almighty" with $2.55 million, and Judd Apatow's acclaimed comedy "Knocked Up" with $2.3 million.
