One of the highly-anticipated pictures of the year, the DreamWorks/Paramount Pictures' big-screen take on the Hasbro toys makes no difficulty in scooping up $70.5 million in its first weekend, bringing a total tally of $155.4 million so far since its preview screenings on Monday night, July 2.
The superb income the sci-fi saga has collected is far superior than the $29 million last-week champ "Ratatouille" scores this time and so, mightily topples the Disney/Pixar's animated feature down one place to number two. Moving to the slot behind, there comes action-packed movie "Live Free or Die Hard" which manages to add another $17.7 million to raise its booty to $84.4 million.
Newcomer "License to Wed" and Universal Pictures' comedy "Evan Almighty" pop up next to round out the big five of the list, the former raking in $10.4 million to make its total since debuting Tuesday, July 3, to $17.8 million while the latter one continuing to strive well at $8.7 million.
On the sixth rank sits horror thriller "1408" for its decent effort to pull in $7.1 million followed by Judd Apatow-directed "Knocked Up" that makes it way to gain a fair number of $5.2 million. The rest positions up to number ten go to superhero flick "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" with $4.2 million, documentary feature "Sicko" with $3.6 million, and Warner Bros. Pictures' caper movie "Ocean's Thirteen" with $3.5 million.
