AceShowbiz - The world's number one golfer Tiger Woods became a first-time father Monday June 18th as his wife Elin Nordegren gave birth to a baby girl, their first child together.
Announced the birth of the baby, named Sam Alexis, Wood wrote on his Website, "Both Elin and Sam are doing well and resting peacefully. We want to thank our doctors and the hospital staff for all their dedicated and hard work. This is truly a special time in our lives and we look forward to introducing Sam to our family and friends over the next few weeks. We thank everyone for their well wishes and continued respect of our privacy."
Sam was born early Monday morning just one day after Father's Day and less than 24 hours after Woods finished second in the 2007 US Open championship Sunday June 17th.
Woods married Nordegren, a Swedish former nanny and model, on October 5, 2004 after meeting her at the 2001 British Open. He first announced the pregnancy December 30th last year, released a statement on his Website, saying "As some of you know, today is my 31st birthday. I'll spend it quietly with family and friends, but Elin and I have more exciting news to share: We are expecting our first child together this summer. Obviously, we couldn't be happier and our families are thrilled. I have always wanted to be a dad. I just wish my father could be around to share the experience."
