Movie

Universal Pictures reportedly has hired Australian filmmaker Russell Mulcahy to direct a sequel to the 2002 "The Scorpion King."

AceShowbiz - Moving from one sequel to another, "Resident Evil: Extinction" helmer Russell Mulcahy has been assigned by Universal Pictures to direct "The Scorpion King 2", a follow-up to its 2002 "The Scorpion King", ShockTillYouDrop.com has reported.

Further details regarding the plot or casting for the project have not yet known, but pic has a probability to provide a tremendous opportunity for Universal in tapping some serious cross-promotion as "The Mummy 3" is being geared up into production.

The first film, a spin-off prequel to "The Mummy" franchise, featured Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock in the title role under the direction of Chuck Russell. The flick scored great on the box office, pulling a total $91 million domestically while collecting almost $74 million in foreign market.
