Cat Power was chosen by Shortlist Music Prize judges among hefty list of people with best recordings that haven't reached gold.

AceShowbiz - Being in the top ten finalists of Shortlist Music Prize, Cat Power has stood out among the crowd. The singer - real name Charlyn Marshall - was chosen to be the first woman to win the prestigious award.

Cat beat her seniors like Tom Waits and Regina Spektor for a reason. KT Tunstall who is within the jury panel said, "Cat Power's album quickly got under my skin. She has one of the most beguiling voices around. `The Greatest' is an immediate classic that will never age."

Reaching 6th cycle, Shortlist Music Prize is still ruling the appreciation of previous year's albums that have not reached Gold by the time of nomination. Past winners include Sigur Ros, N.E.R.D, Damien Rice and TV on the Radio.

With the winning, Cat's previously unreleased track will be made available in iTunes next week.
