Nada Surf has begun the recording of their fifth effort which still needs a few lyric touches.

AceShowbiz - Done with the touring for "The Weight Is a Gift", Nada Surf quickly got back in the studio for next album. The project that has taken course since March 2007 is expected to be complete by January 2008.

"We tracked maybe 20 songs. I'd say a third of those still need lyrics," frontman Matthew Caws said. "It's probably 70% there, but of the ones we're going to put on, maybe three songs still need words and the other ones need to be cooked a little."

Some guests artists such as Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard, Juliana Hatfield, Harvey Danger's Sean Nelson and The Long Winters' John Roderick can be expected to appear in the album.

Regarding the sound, Caws also hinted, "there is some hard rock, almost early '80s British metal for a couple of minutes. I don't even know if the record is going in a positive direction or a vitriolic direction. I think it's getting weirder. But then some songs sound like Tom Petty, which is a great thing if it works and a bummer if it doesn't."

The indie rock band tentatively naming the Barsuk released album "Time for Plan A". Recorded in Seattle, this project is taken by producer John Goodmanson who worked with the band in previous release.
