Winners in Film Slots Named at the 33rd Annual Saturn Awards

"Superman Returns" topped the event with taking five honors that included those of Best Fantasy Film, Best Actor, and Best Director.

AceShowbiz - Picking up the best among notable big screen titles and names for its 33rd annual Saturn Awards, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films finally listed out those worthy for the honors in movie categories as it held the ceremony yesterday, May 10 at the Universal Hilton.

Most kudos wonderfully went to Warner. Bros Pictures' "Superman Returns" for the superhero flick made its way to collect five prizes altogether, namely Best Fantasy Film, Best Actor for Brandon Routh, Best Director for Bryan Singer, Best Writing for Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris, plus Best Music for John Ottman.

In the meantime, "Children of Men" and "The Descent" gloriously came out as the Best Science Fiction and Horror Film, respectively, with "Casino Royale" being deemed Best Action/Adventure/Thriller Film. Other titles winning included Disney/Pixar's "Cars" and Picturehouse's "Pan's Labyrinth", the former becoming Best Animated Film while the latter Best International Film.

Accompanied Routh in the opposite slot of Best Actress was Natalie Portman, who got recognized for her performance in "V for Vendetta." For the supporting ones, the organization delightfully named Ben Affleck and Famke Janssen as the winners, respectively for "Hollywoodland" and "X-Men: The Last Stand." Meanwhile, the Best Performance by a Younger Actor title was given to "Labyrinth" star Ivana Baquero.

In technical categories, Todd Masters and Dan Rebert took home the Best Make-Up trophy for their work in "Slither", which also landed director James Gunn the Filmmakers Showcase Award. Winning the Best Costume was Yee Chung-Man for "Curse of the Golden Flower" while John Knoll, Hal Hickel, Charles Gibson, and Allen Hall nabbed Best Special Effects award for "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."
