Arctic Monkeys Fears Sophomore Syndrome

With the release date coming nearer, Arctic Monkeys is afraid that the new sound will not live up the fans' expectation.

AceShowbiz - British wonder Arctic Monkeys that shot to fame after one album, is now worried about the upcoming release of the sophomore one. Scheduled to hit US stores on April 24, "Favourite Worst Nightmare" is indeed very much in different lane compared to the debut.

Frontman Alex Turner said that they have started worrying since the beginning of the work, mainly because he feared that the new material would 'shock' their fans who are used to last year's "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I Am Not". He said in a statement, "We were only 18 and 19 when it all happened. We were playing gigs and writing great tunes. Then it got a bit daunting. To do all this new stuff and have people scrutinise you, it's hard. I got frightened by it all and went into my shell a bit."

In comparison to the second album, "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I Am Not" is described as "very, very fast and very, very loud, more ambitious, heavier...and with a fiercely bright production". The band receives a lot of The Smiths' influence where Alex's voice is in close comparison to Morrissey's.

The James Ford-helmed project will be released in Japan on April 18 and in UK on April 23. Its first single titled "Brainstorm" is out on April 16.
