The Weinstein Co.'s chairman Harvey Weinstein is contemplating to split "Grindhouse" following the below-expectation opening gross of the flick.

AceShowbiz - Dissatisfied with the result of "Grindhouse" of only grossing $11.5 million in its opening week in the States, The Weinstein Co.'s exec Harvey Weinstein is now considering to give the same treatment the company intends to do for non-speaking English markets: splitting the flick in two.
Confessing that he is "incredibly disappointed" with the numbers, the man revealed the plan to Deadline Hollywood, unveiling his intention to re-release the film's two segments Quentin Tarantino 's "Death Proof" and Robert Rodriguez's "Planet Terror" as separate movies later this summer.
"We tried to do something new and obviously we didn't do it that well, " Weinstein remarked. "It's just a question of how is it going to hang in there. But we could split the movies in a couple of weeks. Make Tarantino's a full-length film, and Rodriguez's too. We'll be adding those 'two missing reels' that's talked about in the movie."
Debuted in theaters Friday, April 6, 2007, "Grindhouse" features "Proof" as a rip-roaring slasher pic and "Terror" as a movie exploring an alien world eerily familiar to ours with several faux trailers being screened before both segments. Amid the positive reviews and great media coverage, the movie only reached the fourth rank on weekend domestic box office ended April 8, 2007, right behind Columbia Pictures' family comedy "Are We Done Yet?."
