Fox 2000 and Walden Media in association with Jim Henson Co. will make a live-action adaptation of Edward Gorey's classic tale "The Doubtful Guest."

AceShowbiz - Gathering together for one purpose, Fox 2000 and Walden Media are teaming up with Jim Henson Co. to make "The Doubtful Guest", a big screen adaptation of illustrator-writer Edward Gorey's classic tale of the same title which will be released under Fox Walden banner.

Published in 1957, the book concerns a quirky family whose life is turned upside down upon the surprising yet unwelcome arrival of a mysterious, mischievous creature that later brings trouble and wreaks havoc to them. It was one of the early works of Gorey, who passed away in 2000 at age seventy-five.

Taking helming duties for the live-action project is Canadian filmmaker Brad Peyton with Matthew Huffman penning the screenplay and Jason Lust producing alongside Lisa and Brian Henson. Meanwhile, Jim Henson's Creature Shop will work on the creature creation with an aim to stay faithful to Gorey's look but giving him expression and the ability to be articulated as a character.
