"Stomp the Yard" helmer Sylvain White reportedly has taken the director's seat in "Static" that was presumed to belong to Guy Ritchie.

Going out of radar after being reported to have Guy Ritchie attached as director back in July 2006, a surprising tidbit has come to the surface concerning the development of futuristic thriller "."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the helming duties have been entrusted to "" director Sylvain White instead, who will carry out the job for Columbia Pictures and Original Films. The assignment thereby marks White's collaboration with Sony after "Yard", which has grossed more than $61 million domestically.

"I am grateful to be working again with the studio that gave me my start," White humbly remarked. " 'Static' offers me the exciting opportunity to paint an innovative near-future youthful reality within a high action-packed framework."

Originally penned by Brad Gann, "Static" is set in Los Angeles and concerns a wrongly imprisoned gangster who must use his wit and skill to make his way through rival gangs in order to testify against the corrupt cops who put him away. Original's Neal Moritz is onboard to produce with Sony's Matt Tolmach and Rachel O'Connor overseeing for the studio.
