"The Departed" star Vera Farmiga has signed on to star in Miramax Films' Holocaust drama "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas."

AceShowbiz - Seems to have no shortage of offers for this year, Vera Farmiga has given her agreement to take starring part in Holocaust-prestige feature "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" for Miramax Films.

An adaptation of the best-selling novel by Irish writer John Boyne, the dramatic flick focuses on a boy from a German family moving into Auschwitz who befriends a kid from the town's concentration camp. It is said that Farmiga will be billed as the German boy's mother, who grows horrified as she begins to know the truth about the camp.

English filmmaker Mark Herman has come onboard to direct from the script he himself wrote with David Heyman producing via his Heyday Films. Production is slated to begin at the end of April 2007 in Budapest, Hungary for an expected Christmas 2007 release.

Farmiga, the daughter of Ukrainian immigrants born in Essex County, New Jersey, initially broke into acting field through stage productions before venturing film industry. Her upcoming big screen credits include "Joshua", "Never Forever", "In Tranzit", and "Ouid Pro Quo", all slated to come up this year.
