Ricky Martin was named king of the 50th annual National Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York.

AceShowbiz - Ricky Martin was honored Thursday March 15th with the title of king of the 50th annual National Puerto Rican Day Parade.

The honor given to the Latin singer is meant to honor his musical success and efforts to fight the exploitation of children worldwide.

"He has always expressed his pride as a Puerto Rican and a Latino," parade committee president Madelyn Lugo commented. "He has served as one of our greatest ambassadors, and we can't think of a better role model to honor as the King of the Parade."

As of this year, the parade is scheduled to take place June 10th. The "king" title is the first ever the parade has ever had besides the other titles, including grand marshal and padrino, or godfather.

In other news, Ricky is about to expand his "Black & White" tour to North America and Canada, beginning on April 17th and temporarily run through May 20th.
