Wachowski Brothers' actioner "Speed Racer" will be come to theaters two weeks earlier than previously slated on May 9, 2008.

AceShowbiz - Starting its engine a little early from its schedule, "Speed Racer" is now slated to open in theaters on May 9, 2008 instead, which is two weeks earlier than previously slated, Warner Bros. Pictures' President of Domestic Distribution Dan Fellman and President of International Distribution Veronika Kwan-Rubinek have announced.

"We see it as a movie with broad-based, worldwide appeal--from adults to teens to families--making it the perfect film to lead off our exciting 2008 Summer slate," so Fellman stated. "We want to give 'Speed Racer' the maximum playability throughout the season, so moving it up to the earliest possible date made the most sense."

What's more, in companion to its wide release in domestic market, the flick is also scheduled to be launched day-and-date in a majority of the international markets.

"Opening 'Speed Racer' day-and-date with the U.S. in most international markets will not only allow audiences to see the film early but will maximize business before the start of the European Soccer Championships," Kwan-Rubinek remarked as she explained the reason behind the decision.

A big screen adaptation of the classic series created by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida, "Racer" is a live-action feature which concerns the adventures of a young race car driver named Speed in his quest for glory in his thundering Mach 5. Brothers Larry and Andy Wachowski are both taking writing and helming duties with Joel Silver producing through his Silver Pictures.
