Sony Pictures has revealed that "Spider-Man 3" will have its world premiere in Tokyo, Japan instead of the States.

Evoking surprise among the fans and moviegoers, Sony Pictures has announced that "Spider-Man 3" will open in Japan instead and grace roughly 400 theaters there on May 1, 2007 after a star-studded premiere in Tokyo set to be held on April 16.
Following the debut, the flick will have its wide release on May 2 and 3 over 39 more countries, including Estonia, Belgium and Oman, to then finally grace the U.S. cinemas on May 4.
While the motive to take such strategy is kept from public, it is suspected by Variety that Sony likely conducted the move in a bid to ingratiate itself in the worldwide market early on so that the flick gets larger chances to stand up against two other anticipated blockbusters namely "Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End" and "Shrek the Third", which both will encounter their release in the same month.
The third installment of the mega-hit franchise based on the famed Marvel's comic book series, "Spider-Man 3", purportedly the darkest of the trilogy, brings back Sam Raimi at helm as well as the original cast members like Tobey Maguire as the title character and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson. Apart from its U.S. theatrical release, the movie will also open at IMAX theaters on the same day.
