Country music forerunner George Strait tops this year's ACM Awards list of nominees just few days before putting his music career into rest.

AceShowbiz - A final batch of nominees for the 42nd Academy of Country Music Awards has been announced and surely this is the year for George Strait, Brooks & Dunn, Rascal Flatts and also Carrie Underwood.

Topping the number of nominations at eight counts, Strait who is known for his 'honky tonk' music is again predicted as the frontrunner for this awards show. He places himself among the top categories including Top Male Vocalist, Entertainer of the Year and also Album of the Year for "It Just Comes Natural" (2006). Tailing behind Strait, the duo Brooks & Dunn who had snatched 3 awards last year is nominated for 7 categories this year, among them are the same Top Vocal Duo and Best Video for "Hillbilly DeLuxe" that they won last year. Meanwhile the group Rascal Flatts holds the chance for 6 categories and the newcomer Underwood following after, sums up a total of five nominations including the prestigious Top Female Vocalist category.

Other names which have been regulars but have less number of nominations and still hold the chance to come up winners are Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Sara Evans, Faith Hill, etc. Meanwhile American Idol alumnae Kellie Pickler can put a smile on her thriving career as she is nominated for Top New Female Vocalist.

Ironically, while the Dixie Chicks has swept the recent 49th Grammy Awards, the band's name is nowhere to be found again this year in ACM Awards following the Bush-bashing comment during one of their shows in 2003.

The nomination that was announced on Monday March 5, 2007 will be followed with the winners' revelation on the actual event on May 15 and will be broadcast live from MGM Grand Garden Arena on CBS TV at 8 pm. For more complete details of the categories and the nominees log on to acmcountry.com.
