Ethan Hawke has signed on to play the lead in indie drama "Staten Island."

AceShowbiz - On the way to once again exhibit his dramatic acting skills, Ethan Hawke is about to topline an indie drama project entitled "Staten Island", which will be the feature directorial debut for New York-born screenwriter James DeMonaco.
Marking the reunion between Hawke and DeMonaco after 2005's "Assault on Precinct 13", the picture is a collection of intersecting stories of three residents of the borough and how they struggle to get ahead. DeMonaco is also on duty to pen the script with an eye to begin filming late April 2007 in New York.
Hawke, a native of Austin, Texas, made his debut in film industry at age fourteen in Joe Dante's "Explorers" and finally landed his breakthrough in "Dead Poets Society" which saw him star opposite Robin Williams. His upcoming films include "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" and "The Hottest State", a big screen adaptation of his own novel which he also writes and direct.
