HandMade Films Intl. and Ilion Animation Studios have come onboard to both finance and co-produce animated sci-fi comedy "Planet One."

AceShowbiz - Seems the development of "Planet One" will go just fine as HandMade Films Intl. has delightfully joined forces with Madrid-based Ilion Animation Studios to both finance and co-produce the CGI sci-fi comedy.

Made at $50 million budget, the flick is an alien invasion story about the inhabitants of Planet One who have two antennae and eight fingers and live in a world strangely akin to American suburbia of the 1950s with a persistent fear of alien invasion, which is fulfilled when a human astronaut lands in their midst.

Filming on the movie is scheduled to begin May this year for a planned release of Christmas 2008 or Easter 2009. Jorge Blanco is onboard to direct based on script by "Shrek" scribe Joe Stillman with Ignacio Perez Dolset and former Nickelodeon head of TV and film production Albie Hecht producing.

One of the leading British film companies of the 1980s, HandMade recently acquired Sequence Film of which upcoming slate includes "Manolete", "Tales of the Riverbank", and "The Stone Angel." As for Ilion, the company is the theatrical production offshoot of Spain's Pyro Studios, creators of the "Commandos" videogame series in which Blanco serves as the lead artist.
