"Star Trek XI" Takes Off on 2008's Christmas

Paramount Pictures has officially stated that "Star Trek XI" will start filming this fall for a Christmas Day 2008 release.

With J.J. Abrams now is set to helm "Star Trek XI", it certainly is not very surprising to learn that Paramount Pictures is choosing to go on the fast track in developing the anticipated sci-fi feature in turn.

The giant studio has officially announced that the newest big screen installment of the hit franchise will be released exactly on Christmas Day in 2008 and so, will enter production this fall with Abrams to also produce alongside "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof while Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Bryan Burk executive produce.

"Our goal is to make a picture for everyone -- life-long fans and the uninitiated," Abrams remarked upon commenting on the project. "Needless to say, I am honored and excited to be part of this next chapter of Star Trek."

Originally created by Gene Roddenberry, "Star Trek" franchise first took shape in TV series form aired in 1966-1969 to then generate five different series and ten big screen features which have grossed in excess of $1 billion at the worldwide box office. In addition, it also has spawned dozens of computer and video games, hundreds of novels and other fan stories as well as a themed attraction in Las Vegas.
