Helen Mirren and Forest Whitaker scored in lead acting category while Melissa Etheridge's composition won best original song at the event.

AceShowbiz - Lining up with the previously announced recipients at the prestigious 79th annual Academy Awards, here came the names of Helen Mirren, Forest Whitaker, singer Melissa Etheridge, Thelma Schoonmaker, Michael Arndt, and Gustavo Santaolalla into the pack.
Mirren and Whitaker, who both grabbed numerous film awards during the past two months, were triumphantly bestowed the honor of best leading actress and actor, respectively; Mirren for her lauded performance in "The Queen" while Whitaker for his in "The Last King of Scotland."
Etheridge joyously received a trophy for her composition for "An Inconvenient Truth", "I Need To Wake Up", which won Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song. Arndt, in the meantime, was recognized for his original script for "Little Miss Sunshine" and Santaolalla for his original score for "Babel."
