"Pan's Labyrinth" and "Cronicas" will both vie for honors at this year's Ariel Awards, Mexico's top film prize, notably for best film title.

AceShowbiz - Both have made their way in Hollywood and now are vying to be the best in Mexican film industry.

Yes, "Pan's Labyrinth" and "Cronicas" have just been announced by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences to be the leading contenders at the 49th annual Ariel Awards, Mexico's equivalent to Academy Awards.

While "Cronicas" scores six nominations altogether, "Labyrinth" fantastically garners twice more at twelve, making it the top scorer at the event in turn. Out of total nods earned, both will compete against each other in four categories of best film, best director, best sound, and best editing.

Apart from those mentioned, "Labyrinth" also places its stars Maribel Verdu and Alex Angulo in the running for best actress and best supporting actor title, respectively with "Cronicas" giving Damian Alcazar a slot in best actor category.

Winners will be named on March 20 this year in the award ceremony held at Mexico City's Palace of Fine Arts. Complete list of nominees is available on the Academy's official site at https://www.academiamexicana.com/ariel/nominados.asp.
