AceShowbiz - It was held at the Royal Opera House in a country known for its royalty and this year bestowed its top prize to a lauded drama about royal family.
Yes, BAFTA Awards, also known as the Orange British Academy Film Awards, ultimately saw "The Queen" came out as the Best Film with its star Helen Mirren being crowned the Best Actress in a Leading Role as the British Academy of Film and Television Arts listed the event's honorees yesterday, February 11.
However, the big winner at the ceremony turned out to be another movie of a ruler for "The Last King of Scotland" gloriously scooped three prizes of The Alexander Korda Award for the Outstanding British Film of the Year, Best Actor in a Leading Role for Forest Whitaker, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Peter Morgan and Jeremy Brock.
Other titles scoring more than one trophy included "Pan's Labyrinth", "Children of Men", and "Little Miss Sunshine", among others, the latter giving Alan Arkin the title of Best Actor in a Supporting Role besides landing the Best Original Screenplay honor handed to its scribe Michael Arndt.
Notable names like Jennifer Hudson, Eva Green, and Paul Greengrass also were deemed the winner at the event, bringing home one for Best Actress in a Supporting Role prize, the Orange Rising Star Award, and the David Lean Award for Achievement in Direction, respectively.
