Director Martin Scorsese is reported to be in consideration to elaborate "The Departed" story into a sequel as well as a prequel.

AceShowbiz - Looking on the critical and financial success "The Departed" has attained so far, it is quite reasonable to filmmakers of the picture to think about the follow-ups to the acclaimed flick.

Heavy reports circulating around claim that director Martin Scorsese is considering elaborating the mob story into two more big screen installments, being supported by Mark Wahlberg's remark concerning the matter.

"We may do another one, because it's based on a Hong Kong film ['Infernal Affairs'], and there is a trilogy," the actor said. "So we may do a sequel with a new cast, and a prequel and bring back the rest of the guys."

Giving a more interesting tidbit, Wahlberg added that Scorsese has already lined up assistance from some of his old friends to materialize the plan.

"They're talking to Robert De Niro and a couple of other people," he revealed. "Anybody who is anybody wants to work with Marty."

If the plan is truly carried out, either project will mark the first time Scorsese revisits one of his owns films. The renowned filmmaker has just received Best Director - Motion Picture title for his work in "Departed" at the 64th annual Golden Globe Awards held Monday, January 15, 2007.
