"The Departed" was named Best Picture with its helmer Martin Scorsese bringing home the Best Director honor.

AceShowbiz - Presenting its Critics' Choice Awards at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium last Friday, January 12, 2007, the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) solemnly mentioned one by one names and titles deserved the honors through its starry presenters that included Jennifer Garner, Christian Slater, Sienna Miller, and Cuba Gooding Jr..

Though the top category of Best Picture gloriously fell to the mob saga "The Departed" which also won its helmer Martin Scorsese the Best Director title, the event's big winners turned out to be its two competitors "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Dreamgirls" as each triumphantly landed four prizes in other major slots.

A hugely acclaimed road movie, "Sunshine" altogether snatched Best Acting Ensemble, Best Writer for scribe Michael Arndt, Best Young Actor for Paul Dano, and Best Young Actress for Abigail Breslin while "Dreamgirls" scored in Best Soundtrack, Best Song for "Listen", plus Best Supporting Actor and Actress for Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson, respectively.

Meanwhile in lead acting categories, frontrunners in the Oscar race Forest Whitaker and Helen Mirren successfully took up their umpteenth honor, the former absolutely through his superb portrayal in "The Last King of Scotland" while the latter for none other than hers in "The Queen."
