The sci-fi flick will be released in summer 2009 instead of summer 2008 as planned before.

AceShowbiz - Wanting to do the best for his ambitious film project "Avatar", director James Cameron has boldly taken a conclusion to shift the release date of the movie to summer 2009 from the scheduled summer-2008 launch.

"I'll spend many months completing the special effects on Avatar, and it will not be released until the summer of 2009," so he confirmed in a recent interview with The Independent. "It's quite a challenge - and for that reason, I embrace it."

A production of the 20th Century Fox, "Avatar" is a sci-fi thriller feature revolving around a paraplegic war veteran named Jake who is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na'vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Apart from the helming duties, Cameron is also in charge to pen the script as well as to serve as the film's producer alongside Jon Landau and Rae Sanchini.
